Itinerary

Morelia Cathedral. A Baroque-style building dating from the 17th century with incredible richness in its interior. It is a unique cathedral in all of Latin America, dedicated to the Transfiguration of Christ.

Plaza de armas. The heart of the historic downtown, where you'll learn about the romantic rituals followed by couples in old Valladolid (now Morelia) to find love and secure marriage.

Colegio de San Nicolás de Hidalgo. The first school for Spanish-born priests, originally founded in Pátzcuaro by the first bishop, Vasco de Quiroga, and later moved to Valladolid (Morelia) in the late 16th century. This is where some of the most notable heroes in Mexican history studied.

Clavijero Palace Cultural Center. The first school for literary education, run by the Jesuit order. It left a monumental legacy in academics and is now one of the most beautiful museums in the city, featuring rotating exhibits of modern art.

Las Rosas Garden, Temple, and Music Conservatory. This site takes us back to the roots of colonial Morelia. It served as a Dominican convent for centuries, then as a girls’ school, and became the first sacred music school in the region. Here, we’ll enjoy the narration of one of Morelia’s local legends, which may be romantic, terrifying, or spiritual in nature—each one inviting you to experience the mysticism and ghost stories of our city.

Government Palace. Once a Tridentine seminary for priestly formation, it now holds stunning murals painted in the mid-20th century by Alfredo Zalce, an artist from Pátzcuaro. These works reflect the emotion, sorrow, and strength of the Mexican people during the Conquest, Independence, and Revolution.
